The 2013 Easton XL1: YB13X1 features a new composite in the handle called SIC (Solid Impact Construction) Composite. This new feature will help to eliminate sting and vibration giving the 2013 model a better feel and making it a more forgiving bat. Pre-Book means you can reserve a bat now, and once we get them in on 11/14, it will ship to you with free 2-Day Air. Hello there. I've been reading a bit about these fully composite bats. And have a couple of questions, is there a specific method required to "break in" this bat? Can the bat be used if the temperatures are low? Say 50-60 degrees? Jason
We recommend breaking in composite bats by taking 100-200 swings off a soft toss or a tee. Rotate the barrel about 1/4 inch each swing. Composite bats like the 2013 Easton XL1 can be used in temperatures above 50 degrees.

Yes, the 2013 Easton XL1 would be an excellent option for your son. The only XL1 that is available with a -8 length to weight ratio is going to have a 2 5/8" barrel diameter.

The suggested length of the 2013 Easton XL1: YB13X1 Youth bat would be at 30". This is based off of your son's height, weight, and age. The Easton XL1 would be a Two-Piece all Composite material bat. Once broken-in this bat would have a high producing trampoline effect. The Omaha is a One-Piece all Alloy designed bat that is at it's highest performing right out of the wrapper. It doesn't require a break-in period. Either bat is a great choice for a youth hitter.

Yes. It's just recommended you limit how much it is used when it's colder than 55 degrees or so. This just means you shouldn't let the whole team us it and you should try to use a spare or backup bat in practice when it's that cold.

The XL1 is endloaded, making it better suited for strong hitters with high swing speed. The S1 is very well balanced and better suited for hitters with average to below average strength and swing speed. You should make your decision based on that information.

That depends on what bat the player has used in the past with the most success. It's always recommend that a player stick with the same type of bat they have used in the past with the most success. In doing so, the player is much, much more likely to have continued success at the plate.

I would be careful when using the 2013 Easton XL1: YB13X1 Youth bat in temperatures under 55 degrees. You can still use it when it's colder than that, but you need to make sure you are the only one using it, and you should try to limit the number of overall hits on it and use a back-up bat in practice if possible.

My son is 11 and weighs about 85 pounds. Last year he had a Easton S1 19/17 and was a great contact hitter hitting for a very high average. Last summer he tried his friend's Easton XL1 30/20 and liked the extra power. He wants the new Easton XL1 30/20 for this coming season. I think he can handle the extra inch but I'm concerned about going up 3 ounces. Would you suggest the 30/20 or 29/19? MG
We would recommend the 29" 19 oz 2013 Easton XL1: YB13X1 Youth. Three ounces is normally too big of a jump, especially with an end loaded bat.

It is a Two-Piece Fully Composite design. 100-200 swings from soft toss or a hitting tee while rotating the handle in the hitters hands will work fine. You just want the entire barrel to get a full work over while breaking in those composite fibers.

Yes, the **PRE-BOOK** 2013 Easton XL1: YB13X1 Youth bat should work just fine for the type of season you are describing. Unlike all Alloy made bats that are the best from Day 1 and slowly lose their performance over time. This bat will require a break-in period. Once the break-in period has started this bat will start to perform well. The more swings you put on this model the better the performance you will see. My son has a 29 -12 bat right now and he wants an Easton XL1, you think go for a 28/18 or a 29/19. Not sure if its better to go down in length and 1 up on weight or same length but up 2 on weight. Thanks. TJ
That depends on his swing speed and bat control with the 29" 17 oz. bat he currently has. If he has above average swing speed, and good bat control with it, then a 29" 19 oz. XL1 would be a good option. If not, I would go with a 28" 18 oz. model.

If you have good swing speed as a contact hitter the 2013 Easton XL1: YB13X1 would be the best choice. It is end loaded and you will be able to feel the increase in weight.

I swing a Combat B3 Gear 29" 19 oz. and it's pretty good, but I also have tried a 30" 20 oz. and don't have any problems with it. Should i stick with 19 oz. and get the CF5, or get the XL1? John
If you can handle the 30" 20 oz. I would recommend moving up in length and weight when ever you can. You will need to continue moving up as you get older and whenever you can easily handle moving up it is recommended that you do so.

The Easton XL Series has an extended barrel and more end loaded swing weight. It would be good for a player who has above average swing speed. The Easton S Series is a very balanced model and better for the player who has average to below average swing speed.

The Easton S1 is going to be a better bat for you. It will feel balanced like the DeMarini CF4 did. The Easton XL1 is going to be end loaded, and feel heavier when you swing the bat, which could lower your bat speed.

As with all composite bats it is still recommended that you break in the bat with 100 - 200 soft toss swings rotating the bat 1/4 inch after each swing.

If he has above average swing speed, a more endloaded bat like the XL1 or XL2 will help him generate more inertia, which translates into more power/pop. The XL1 is a two-piece full composite bat that is top-of-the-line for Easton.

The best predictor of what a player will be successful with is what they were successful with previously at the plate. Therefore, I would recommend he uses the Easton S1: YB13S1 Youth bat. This is a very balanced model like the Easton S2 he used in the 31" model.

The 2013 Easton XL1: YB13X1 Youth bat is a two-piece fully composite design. The COMBAT Pure Gear is a one-piece fully composite design. Any composite bat that you do not break-in correctly will have a chance of cracking or breaking on the barrel. You must use a batting tee or soft toss and work the entire barrel over. Swing at 40-50% power and rotate the bat in the hands. This will help the composite fibers break-in on the barrel.

That's a very difficult question for us to answer without being able to see and analyze his swing. If he had well above average swing speed and bat control with his 17 oz. bat, then he should be fine moving up 3 oz. If he had just average or below average swing speed and bat control with his 17 oz. bat, then a 19 oz. S1 would be recommended.

All of the swing weights on the new 2013 Easton XL Series will have a slight end load because of the extra long barrel. This is a difficult question for to answer as much of the decision comes down to the personal preference of the player and what bat type of bat they have used previously. It's always recommend that a player stick with the same type of bat they have used in the past with the most success. In doing so, the player is much, much more likely to have continued success at the plate.

The 2013 Easton XL1: YB13X1 Youth should not be rolled. Not only is it illegal, but rolling the bat will void the manufacturer's warranty. We recommend a break-in period of 150-200 swings to get the bat game-ready.

Just bought the COMbat Reloaded 29" 17 oz. for my son and he does not love it. It's a good bat but he was trying his teammates Easton and loves it. He is 5'3" and 74 lbs. He is in Rookies division and has been hitting off a pitching machine set at 38 mph. They will be switching to live pitching in 4 games and I'm not sure how fast these kids will be throwing. I'm confused and I have a few questions. My son is 10 years old, 85 pounds, and he does have a pretty quick bat. He takes a lot of batting practice and does face pitchers that throw pretty hard. His BP takes place mostly in an indoor batting cage where it is above 60 degrees with real leather wrapped baseballs. He has dented the S3 three times in the last 4 months. Obviously, the S3 is not working out, but I read that the XL1 may be more likely to break in the colder weather if we play in the fall. Because the S3 is damaged, he is using a cheaper Easton bat from a couple of years ago, and it seems more durable than the newer more expensive ones. Why? Which model do you recommend as far as performance and durability? The S3 youth is made from a high performance alloy and is designed for youth players. If your son is denting a youth bat, he may need to consider moving up to a senior league (youth big barrel) bat, as they are designed for the increased stresses of larger kids. Finally, I'd take a look at an Easton Reflex for a cage bat, they are a great cage bat.

At your size a 31" bat would be best. The 2013 Louisville Slugger Attack and the 2013 Easton XL1: YB13X1 Youth bats will be very similar. Both will be two-piece fully composite designs. The Attack will be very balanced and the XL1 will have a barrel heavy feel to the swing weight. If you are a true power hitter I would go with the Easton XL1.
