2014 REVIEW G. NGUYEN player

Pros: I bought this bat in 2011 on Black Friday. I was looking for a good end loaded bat and it was either the Z1000 or the Miken Freak DST Maxload. Well, it just so happens that ALL MIKEN bats were 50% off. I went with the Freak and was totally surprised!!! I'm 5'5" 155lbs and have been playing ASA slowpitch for just about a year, I have three career homers after playing for about three years total now 2014(every time I hit one out, it was not on purpose, just good contact). When I play league ball I'm usually the lead off so I normally aim for liners and use my speed. I brought this bat to a scrimmage game and pulled it fresh out of the wrapper. My first at bat, first pitch, first swing, with bases loaded, I knocked it out of a 300ft field at almost dead center field. This bat has great pop and I'm still using it until this day. Bat Specs: Miken Freak DST Maxload 26oz. ASA NEW out of wrapper

Cons: By now everyone knows you have to put it on the sweat spot with this bat. It's really not that hard to do if you have been playing for a while or have good hand eye coordination. It's an END LOADED bat!!! Suck it up or don't use it.....

Pros: Has lots of pop right out of the package, adds distance and feels great when you connect. Great bat for the price.

Cons: None that I've noticed yet

Pros: This bat is just plain amazing. The first time I swung this bat I hit a 310 foot line drive for a grand slam. The second and third time I swung this bat I drove the ball about 10-15 feet off the fence. For an ASA bat its the best bat out there.

Cons: not a single one

li guy with power

Pros: great power and very light (34/27). I am a small guy and have always been a bit of a power hitter. this gives me the extra 20 feet needed for decisive HRs. So far I am 3 games into the season and already have 3 HRs. Most of my team uses it and we went from scoring 7 runs to 21 mostly from power hitting.

Cons: so far the sound is kind of awkward. Sounds almost like a wooden bat. It could be the type of softball we are using.

Pros: I bought this bat 2 weeks ago and I am blown away! Last night I hit two bombs. One was about 350ft and the other was a line drive that never got above 10ft, but cleared the fence. Even on a bad swing I hit two ball to the fence. You can't go wrong with this bat. I can't wait until it is completely broken in.

Cons: none

Pros: Takes about 50 to really come alive...but pretty hot out ootw! Took BP first time, wasn't very impressed. Took BP 2nd time and it was like a whole different bat! With 100 cuts on it, no signs of webbing, cracking, nothing. Solid asa bat, but still feel the price could loose some weight. Feels "slightly" end loaded, nothing like an old est in comparison to loaded feel. We'll see how long she lasts.

Cons: None so far, another decent Milken.

Pros: This thing is the real deal. Less than 100 swings on it and the ball is already FLYING off of it. Swinging one handed in practice and sending balls well over 200 ft. A few real swings have cleared 375. Used a Synergy CNT Flex last year that was really productive but this one feels completely different. No flex whatsoever so plan for that. Great sound and hits in the sweet spot feel amazing

Cons: Mis-hits can definately be felt, no sting, but noticed. Endloaded...no kidding, 90% of this bats weight is within 2 inches of the end cap. Feels heavier, and swing style may need to be altered to compensate. Recommend going a size lighter....or just manning up and fixing your swing. This bat sticks out like a sore thumb, outfielders can see it coming out of the dugout and will play deep.

Pros: Bought this bat almost a year ago. Out of the wrapper this bat had extreme pop. It's had countless at-bats, and the ball still explodes off the bat. The entire team uses it, even over their own $300 bats. A MUST-BUY. Hit the ball between the E-A-K and it's a guarantee line drive/HR/dead pitcher.

Cons: Like everyone else, hit it in the wrong spot, you'll feel it. You kind-of have to suck to miss the sweet spot, but it happens to us all I guess.

Pros: Right out of the wrapper the 6th ball i hit went about 360' granted i am 6'-2" 235lbs and it was a 44core dudly heat. Its got about 70 hits on it and is getting hotter by the swing. This is a must buy. (period)

Pros: Definately end loaded, 28oz felt heavier with the bat in motion. gotta learn to let the bat carry itself thru the last half of the swing. great pop outta the wrapper tho. used a synergy cnt last season with great results and at practice the miken is sending the ball a good 40ft farther. grounders/line drives whistle thru the infield. feel sorry for guys that try to step in front of it

Cons: A tad heavy feel for the maxload. recommend a size lighter...or just man up and build a stronger swing. it draws a lot of attention and the OF backs up when they see it. and eventually, some poor infielder is gonna end up in the hospital

Pros: I'm a fastpitch softball pitcher who never bats.. Bought this bat and asked if I could hit. Took it out of the wrapper and the guy before me hit a grand slam and I trippled off the fence. Other than an 04 Synergy this is by far my favorite bat.. may even pass the synergy!. Another of my team mates told me after hitting a single that he didn't feel the bat had much pop.. He proceded to look at the bat and realized he hit it right off the handle and just couldn't tell because it still felt smooth. I think that says alot...

Cons: other than the price the only potential con is that umpires that my team mates always want to use it.

Pros: Looks Good

Cons: Have about 75 swings on this bat. I think I may have a defect. I also have an NRG Mayhem, and a Freak 98. All ASA bats. This thing doesn't even come close. Took it out the other day and hit about 50 balls none even came close to 300' fence. Took out my 3 year old NRG and hit 7 in a row at 315+. I am used to hitting bombs and this bat is not getting it done. Buy an NRG before you can't anymore

Pros: I'm a 120 lbs girl and I am one of the bigger hitters on my team, yes believe it or not. Pros: Really good feel to it. I've hit some really good balls with it, but not any out yet. Just 2 weeks old with ~75 hits on it. I used to hit HRs pretty easily but trying to find my stroke. I think this bat will work. The ball will go but right now it's a WTP bat. I think it will open up eventually. Great grip. Quick delivery.

Cons: If you hit it in the wrong place, you'll feel it. That's a typical problem with endloaded bats

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Miken Freak DST Maxload Slow Pitch Softball Bat: MFDSTMA? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

What is the difference between this bat and the 2011 Miken Freak Plus Players Model Softball Bat: MSFPPM Slow Pitch? Jake
The barrel on the MFDSTMA is one inch longer than MSFPPM. The MFDSTMA also uses Miken's DST Technology which is basically a durashell that acts as a composite shield on the outer surface of the barrel. This will help to maximize the bats performance right out the wrapper. This bat is also ASA approved as the MSFPPM is not.
Mark
What are the differences between the 2011 Miken Freak DST and the 2010 Miken Freak DST? Dan
Honestly, there is really nothing different between the two. Miken just reproduced the same bat for 2011.
Rick
Is this bat speed rated at 98 or less? Norbert Wendlandt
Unfortunately we are not aware of what speed rating would apply to the Miken Freak DST Maxload Slow Pitch Softball Bat: MFDSTMA. For clarification on this question, we would recommend contacting Miken directly.

About the Brand

During the past few years, serious softball players have looked to Miken Sports for bats that provide the highest levels of performance and durability. Our relentless focus on both technology and the demands of players has made Miken the most demanded line of softball bats today.

Although composites are the latest trend in softball bats, the technology has been the core of Miken's success since the company's inception. Miken pioneered the modern high-performance composite softball bat in 1998 and has pushed the limits with every model since. No other bat company has driven innovation as hard, and the results are indisputable. Look around. If a player is serious about softball, they are most likely swinging a Miken bat.

The success of Miken Sports has been driven by two forces - innovation and a passion for delivering what players demand. The results are obvious. Players have decided that composites are the future for bats, and no one does composite like Miken.
